Join Birmingham Airport’s Security team as a Security Controller, where you will play a key role in ensuring the efficient and effective management of security resources. Reporting to the Security Duty Managers, you will be responsible for implementing the operational daily plan for the Passenger Search Area and Remote Screening Room, optimising staffing, and driving performance. You will act as the first-line operational decision-maker for security-related incidents, ensuring compliance, safety, and an exceptional customer experience.
Please note this role is shift-based, including day and night shifts to cover a 24/7 roster.
• Lead by example, maintaining high standards of professionalism and fostering a positive, fair, and consistent work culture.• Supervise and support Lane Performance Supervisors and Security Training Teams to achieve department targets.• Communicate effectively, using multiple methods to share key information in a timely manner.• Plan and optimise staffing for security lanes and the Remote Screening Room, ensuring compliance and efficiency.• Use data and available tools (BLIP, CCTV, Incent) to inform decision-making and drive continuous improvement.• Co-ordinate emergency responses to security breaches, fire evacuations, unattended items, and passenger mix-ups.
• Previous experience supervising a large, diverse team in an operational environment.• Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise competing demands while maintaining high standards.• Experience in data analysis and planning within a fast-paced, time-sensitive setting.• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other relevant IT systems.• Previous experience in co-ordinating emergency responses and report writing.• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and manage people confidently.
